Lucio Cotton Canvas Tote Bag

Argentine/Italian artist Lucio Fontana first began to puncture and slash his canvases in 1949 after he co-wrote the Blanco Manifesto with fellow artists and students at Altamira School of Arts, an avant-garde art school in Buenos Aires, Argentina. “The White Manifesto” asserted that it was necessary to embrace architecture, sculpture, and painting and to expand the concept of a painting beyond its frame or surface. His Spacial Concept series includes many works with holes and slashes on monochrome canvases.

This tee is inspired by his Buchi, or holes series. If you’ve ever slashed, poked or cut up your paintings, you’ll recognize the thrill of this naughty act. It would be great if the shirt came with real holes, but we’ll make do with a slight illusion.
